(4/30/98) Results from the 1998 Health Confidence Survey (HCS), co-sponsored by the Employee Benefit Research Institute and Mathew Greenwald and Associates, were released today at the National Press Club in Washington, DC. (4/29/98) The April 1998 issue of Plan Sponsor includes, "Swimming upstream: How Free Markets, Longer Lifespans, Reform of Government Programs, and Worker Participation Will Shape the Next Decade for Pension Sponsors" by Dallas Salisbury, Employee Benefit Research Institute.

(4/27/98) The U.S. Treasury Department's working group on child care released the report, "Investing in Child Care," which discusses what businesses can do to promote access to affordable, high quality child care for their employees.

(4/23/98) President Clinton announced today "an historic initiative to improve child care for America's working families." President Clinton also released reports highlighting private sector child care efforts; click here for a summary of both the Treasury Department and the Labor Department reports.

(4/22/98) The Subcommittee on Oversight of the Committee on Ways and Means will hold a hearing on oversight of current tax law related to health insurance on Thursday, April 23, 1998, in room B-318 Rayburn House Office Building, beginning at 1:00 p.m. Click here for information on the background and focus of the hearing. (4/21/98) Effective with the release of January 1998 data on February 24, 1998, the Consumer Price Index will undergo many changes as a result of a modification made by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. This site provides information on those changes.

(4/20/98) The National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) released April 15 for comment new accreditation standards for HMOs and other health plans. The full text of the standards is available for download from NCQA's site.

(4/20/98) The "Employee Ownership Update" for April 17 from the National Center for Employee Ownership addresses the following: Legislation (H.R. 2788, untitled) that would extend incentive stock option (ISO) treatment to non-highly compensated employees and the performanace of a market index of publicly traded companies with more than 10% broad employee ownership.

(4/20/98) The April 27, 1998, issue of Business Week includes an article entitled "The Flaw in Private Savings," which reports that new data published by the Federal Reserve Bank of New York may give Congress reason to rethink early-withdrawal policies of recent legislation.

(4/17/98) The American Association of Health Plans has released a series of press releases on studies done on the impact of Federal bills that would impose new mandates on health plans.

(4/15/98) The Health Care Financing Administration (HCFA) recently issued Program Memorandum 98-01. The purpose of the bulletin is to convey the position of HCFA on insurance practices that are inconsistent with the guaranteed availability provisions of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA).
